PROBA-V

PROBA-V is a mission lead by the ESA to show how new technologies allow small satellites to support operational systems. The PROBA-V satellite is loaded with Vegetation Instruments, intended to monitor the continental biosphere in a wide spectral range.

DSI designed and developed the Data Handling Unit (DHU), which controls the main instrument on the PROBA-V satellite. It is also designed to receive image data from several interfaces, to do an online compression of the data with source packet formatting and finally to transmit it to the space craft’s mass memory. The DHU is a highly sensitive component, with variable constraints such as weight, thermal management and power propagation.
